Cleanings

A professional dental cleaning at least twice a year can improve your oral health by giving your dentist an opportunity to locate areas in the mouth that may need special attention. During a dental cleaning, you’ll receive diagnostic and preventive services from your dentist as well as any needed educational information.

Your Exam and Cleaning May Include:

  • Oral cancer examination and screening
  • Evaluation of gum tissue
  • X-rays or examination of teeth to detect decay
  • Referral to specialists for specific treatment
  • Removal of plaque and tartar
  • Removal of stains and discolorization
  • Fluoride application
  • Sealants (for children)
  • Polishing teeth, including fillings and crowns

Crowns

Most dentistry looks like dentistry. Our goal is to provide dentistry that is undetectable. We replace existing crowns and fillings with restorations that look and feel like your natural teeth. At Brauer Family Dentistry we utilize Cerec technology—the world’s only system for creating ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. With Cerec, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, inlay or veneer! This means fewer injections, less drilling and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care.

Many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth that is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause appearance problems due to staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that their teeth appear natural and that their facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by Drs. Dave and Dave Erekson or by a specialist (an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or periodontist) suggested by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us. Out team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Fillings

We are a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Porcelain inlays and tooth-colored composite resins create fillings that are not only lifelike and beautiful, but add strength to weakened teeth.

Silver fillings have many drawbacks. The edges of the silver filling can wear down, become weak or break. This results in the tooth not being protected and creates an environment where cavities get started once again. With age, the metal of a silver filling expands, contracts, and can split. Traditional silver colored fillings can corrode, leak, and stain teeth and gums. Fortunately, silver fillings can safely and successfully be replaced with modern tooth-colored restorations.

There are many advantages to tooth-colored restorations. Resin inlays are bonded to the teeth creating a tight, superior fit to the natural tooth. Such restorations can be used in instances where much of the tooth structure has been lost. The tooth remains intact and stronger. Since the resin used in tooth-colored restorations contain fluoride this can help prevent decay. The resin wears like natural teeth and does not require placement at the gum line, which is healthier for your gums.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges. At the center of your tooth is a collection of blood vessels called the pulp. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Sealants

Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored acrylic “coating” is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves acting as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids. Sealants protect the depressions and grooves of your teeth from food particles and plaque that brushing and flossing can’t reach.

Both adults and children can benefit from sealants in the fight against tooth decay. Easy to apply, sealants take only a few minutes to seal each tooth. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed.

Snoring / Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea, a disruption of breathing while asleep, is a deceiving sleep disorder – 90% of people who have sleep apnea don’t know that they have it! Although episodes of choking or gasping for air might occur hundreds of times throughout the night, you may not have any recollection of struggling for breath.

The FDA has approved the marketing of anti-snoring devices referred to as Oral Appliance (OA). The snorer wears it while sleeping, very much like an orthodontic retainer. Contact Brauer Family Dentistry today for more information about snoring & apnea treatment.

TMJ Disorder

One group of complex joint disorders related to the jaw are referred to as TMJ disorders. TMJ disorders are sometimes referred to as myofacial pain dysfunction and Costen’s syndrome. Because muscles and joints work together, a problem with either one can lead to stiffness, headaches, ear pain, bite problems (malocclusion), clicking sounds, or locked jaws. Brauer Family Dentistry now offers affordable and highly effective TMJ treatment options. Contact our office today for more details!

Veneers

Dental veneers, sometimes called porcelain veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Alternatives to veneers include bondings and crowns. Veneers offer a nice intermediate option. Veneers may be best suited for individuals who want to change the shape of their teeth more than just a little bit — as is done with bonding — but not enough to require a crown.
